Years of mismanagement, monopolistic practices, and structural inefficiency in the company and other major domestic car manufacturers. The fact that producing a car results in a loss is not due to the controlled pricing, but because of a failing structure and excessive overhead costs. It is unrealistic to overlook the lack of healthy competition, poor quality, low productivity, and high production costs, and instead opt for the easiest solution, which is to place more financial burden on the public.

Reports indicate that for years, Iran Khodro has been grappling with an excessive workforce, where a significant portion of personnel were hired due to political ties and rent-seeking practices, imposing a heavy financial burden on the company. Additionally, the accumulated losses, often accompanied by continual reliance on state subsidies, reveal the actual state of this industry, which is neither self-sufficient nor competitive. Now that the private sector and companies like Khorams have taken control, instead of addressing the structural issues, they are resorting to the simple but unfair solution of placing more pressure on the public and viewing price increases as a solution to their problems.

However, the issue goes beyond the price of cars; the real question is why the public should bear the cost of managerial inefficiency, unregulated employment, and decades of flawed policies? If production is loss-making, why aren’t the production process, supply chain, and overhead costs being reformed? Why is there never a transparent report on the root causes of losses? Increasing car prices does not address the structural problems; instead, it perpetuates a flawed cycle where companies incur losses, the government provides support, and the public bears the burden. This formula has been tested multiple times and each time has only deepened the crisis.

The reality is that the Iranian automotive industry, in its current form, not only lacks competitiveness but also imposes an unfair burden on consumers who, due to a lack of alternatives, are forced to buy low-quality products at high prices. The call for price reform in such conditions is nothing but an effort to place more pressure on the public to sustain a flawed structure. Before any decision to increase prices, there must be a commitment to internal reforms and the elimination of the real roots of loss-making, which has been long overdue. If any reforms are to happen, they must start from within the factories, not at the expense of the public.
