** Specialist on International Issues Stresses Independence and Dignity for Iran in Global System**

A specialist in international affairs emphasized that the ideal scenario is for Iran to present itself as an independent and dignified nation within the international system. He stated, “It is a grave mistake for a foreign country to dictate terms to Iran, such as, ‘Negotiate or face war.’ The responsibility for creating such conditions lies with those who, in the past, when Iran was in a position of power, closed the path to dialogue. Today, it is disheartening that foreigners dictate to us what defensive capabilities we should or should not possess.”

The expert, Mehdi Zakerian, in an interview with Jamaran news agency, noted the importance of not basing conclusions about negotiations solely on the statements of the parties involved, as these can often be mere claims. He highlighted that the success of negotiations is only truly measured by tangible outcomes that improve the lives of citizens and result in a signed agreement to which both sides are committed.

**Positive Impact of Negotiations and the Need for Accountability**

Zakerian pointed out that while the recent negotiation sessions in Muscat have had a positive impact on Iran’s stock market and currency value, the lack of transparency and the absence of a binding agreement pose significant challenges. He questioned, “Why were opportunities not seized in the past to achieve positive outcomes, such as during the JCPOA? Why were the conditions that led to the U.S. withdrawal from the JCPOA not prevented?”

He further emphasized that those responsible for missed opportunities in foreign policy should be held accountable to the nation. The people now demand answers from those who delayed negotiations and hindered the country’s progress and economic well-being.

**Complexities in U.S. Priorities and Regional Dynamics**

Zakerian explained that while the nuclear issue is a primary concern for the U.S., it is not the only one. The security of the United States, Israel, and the global community, as well as the uninterrupted flow of oil, maritime security, and the global economy, are also critical. He noted that from the U.S. perspective, Iran’s actions are seen as a threat to Israel’s security and the interests of strategic allies like Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Egypt. Therefore, the U.S. will not limit discussions to nuclear issues but will also address regional, missile, and human rights concerns.

**Building Strategic Alliances and Domestic Reconciliation**

Zakerian stressed the need for Iran to clearly define its principles in global economics, human rights, security, and foreign relations. He highlighted that a transparent and globally aligned approach could lead to positive outcomes in negotiations. However, Iran’s foreign policy in recent years has failed to secure any strategic allies, leaving the country isolated when facing international sanctions. He questioned, “In times of crisis, where was the support for Iran from other countries?”

He also noted that many countries benefit from Iran’s strained relations with the U.S. and the international community, often posing as victims of Iranian policies while hoping for the continuation of these tensions. Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and others have taken advantage of Iran’s weakened position, and Israel actively lobbies against any Iran-U.S. agreement.

**The Importance of Domestic Support and Clear National Interests**

Zakerian concluded that Iran’s success in negotiations and achieving a fair and dignified agreement hinges on domestic reconciliation and a clear focus on national interests. “The key to success is for the government to be seen by the people as their true representative, speaking for the nation, not just the ruling elite. If we approach negotiations with the well-being of the people in mind, the world will respect us, and we can secure a balanced and dignified agreement.”

He emphasized that if Iran defines its national interests in line with international norms and focuses on their preservation, the international community will support its efforts. This approach, he argued, will earn Iran the respect and cooperation of other nations, ensuring a more secure and prosperous future.
